How to Register and Update the Mobile Number with your SBI?

Registering your Mobile Number for the first time:

You can register your mobile number with your bank account for the first time by either visiting the SBI ATM or the home branch. Given below are the steps to register your mobile number by visiting an SBI ATM:

  1. Swipe the card and select ‘Registration’ from the menu.
  2. Enter the ATM PIN and choose the option for mobile number registration.
  3. Put in the mobile number that you want to register and choose ‘correct’ after checking that you have entered the right number.
  4. Re-enter the mobile number and press ‘correct.’ You will get a message on the ATM screen thanking you for registering the mobile number. You will get a call from the contact center within three days.
  5. You will get a reference number sent to your mobile via text message.
  6. When you receive the call from the contact center, ask the person concerned to quote the reference number. Check if it matches the reference number that you received through SMS. If it matches, then you will have to verify your personal details and your mobile number will get registered with your bank account. You will get an SMS that confirms the registration.

If you want to register your number for the first time from the home branch, you will have talked to the help desk of the branch. You will be given an application form that you will have to fill and submit to ensure the registration of your mobile number. You will be informed about the registration through SMS.

Updating or Changing your Mobile Number:

You can update or change your mobile number through internet banking, SBI ATM, or phone banking. There is no need to visit the home branch for this purpose but you will need to have a debit card.

Using internet banking:

Make sure that you are a registered user of SBI internet banking. If you are, then you can follow the given steps to update the mobile number.

  1. Login to your account at the SBI website (www.onlinesbi.com)
  2. Choose ‘Profile’ from the option of ‘My Account & Profile’
  3. Choose ‘Personal details/Mobile’ from the ‘Profile’ option
  4. Enter the password for your profile, which is different from the login password. The screen will display ‘Name’, ‘email ID,’ and ‘mobile number’ that has been registered with your account.
  5. Select the hyperlink that says ‘Change Mobile number- Domestic only’
  6. A new screen will come up about ‘Mobile number update’ and this will have three options, namely, ‘create request’, ‘cancel request,’ and ‘status.’
  7. Choose the option of ‘create request’ and enter your new mobile number. Re-enter the number and submit
  8. Verify and confirm the mobile number on the pop-up message that comes up and proceeds.
  9. You will have to approve the change of mobile number now and there are three ways of doing that. You can use OTP on both mobiles, contact center, or go through Internet Banking Request Approval through ATM. Select the option convenient for you.
  10. Choose the account for which you have the credit card and proceed
  11. The next screen will show you the debit cards associated with your account. Select the active debit card and proceed. Enter the necessary details on the page that comes up and submit. Verify all the information and select ok.

After your debit card has been successfully verified, follow the given steps, depending on the option that you chose (i.e. OTP on both mobiles, contact center, and Internet Banking Request Approval through ATM).

Receiving OTP on both the Mobile Numbers:

  1. You will get the OTP on both your mobile numbers (old and new)
  2. Send SMS to 567676 from both the mobile numbers, within 4 hours, in the given format: ACTIVATE <8 digit OTP value>, <13 digit reference number.
  3. Successful validation of the reference number and OTP will lead to an update of the new mobile number in your bank accounts. You will receive a confirmation message after it is done.

Through SBI Contact Center:

Use this option when you do not want to go to an SBI ATM and you do not have the old mobile number with you. When you select this option:

  1. You will get an SMS, having a reference number for changing your mobile number, on your new mobile number.
  2. You will get a call from the contact center and the caller will quote the reference number. Check if it matches the reference number that you received through SMS. If it matches, then you will have to verify your personal details and your mobile number will get updated to your bank account. You will get an SMS that confirms the change of mobile number.

Through visiting an SBI ATM:

  1. Swipe the card and select ‘Registration’ from the menu.
  2. Enter the ATM PIN and choose the option of ‘Update your mobile number.’
  3. Enter the old mobile number and confirm it. Enter the new mobile number and confirm it.
  4. You will get OTPs on both the numbers.
  5. Send the reference number and OTP from both the number, within four hours, to 567676. You can send it only from the new mobile number as well if you do not have the old number. Just as the earlier cases, you will receive a call from the contact center.
